Coal Mining
More actions
Coal Mining refers to the activity of gathering Coal from coal deposit tiles on the world map. Coal is a unique resource in Whiteout Survival because it serves a dual role as both a construction material and the essential fuel to power the Furnace.
Overview
Coal is arguably the most critical resource in Whiteout Survival. Without Coal, the Furnace loses heat and your city's defenses against the deadly snowstorm weaken. Coal Mining ensures a steady supply for both the Furnace and construction projects.
Coal Tile Levels
Coal tiles are scattered across the world map:
| Tile Level | Coal Available | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Low | Common near starting zones |
| Level 2 | Moderate | Mid-range tiles |
| Level 3 | High | Competition increases at this level |
| Level 4 | Very High | Found in mid-to-outer map areas |
| Level 5 | Massive | Rare, heavily contested near state center |
How to Mine Coal
- Open the world map and look for Coal tile icons (depicted as coal/rock imagery).
- Tap the tile to see available Coal and current miners.
- Tap "Gather" to send a march.
- Troops travel to the tile, mine Coal, and return when the march capacity is full.
Importance of Coal
Coal is consumed in three major ways:
- Furnace fuel: The Furnace requires Coal to generate heat and protect the city from snowstorms. Running out of Coal stops heat production.
- Construction: Building upgrades, especially at higher furnace levels, consume large amounts of Coal.
- Research: Several research technologies in the Growth and Economy trees require Coal.
Because of this triple demand, Coal is typically the hardest resource to keep in surplus.
Improving Mining Efficiency
Heroes
Use heroes with Gathering Speed bonuses as march leaders for your Coal mining runs. Faster trips mean more Coal per hour.
Research
The Economy Research tree includes:
- Coal Gathering Speed
- March Load Capacity
- Coal Production boosts
Chief Gear
Gathering Chief Gear provides major bonuses to all gathering activities including Coal mining.
Tips
- Prioritize Coal over other resources: Never let the Furnace run out of Coal — it is a city-wide emergency if it does.
- Keep a Coal buffer: Always maintain at least a 24-hour supply of Coal for the Furnace to avoid emergencies.
- Mine Coal constantly: Unlike other resources, Coal has dual consumption, so it depletes faster.
- Upgrade Coal production buildings: Passive Coal generation helps supplement gathering runs.
- Coordinate in alliance: Alliance-controlled territory near Coal tiles gives your whole alliance better access.
