Furnace

From WOS Forge Wiki

The Furnace is the most important building in Whiteout Survival. It serves as your city's headquarters and central power source, producing the heat required to keep your Survivors alive during the harsh winter conditions.

Description

The Furnace begins as a large, crackling bonfire at the start of the game and evolves into a massive heating tower as it levels up. Its level is the single most important factor in determining your city's overall progression, as it gates the maximum level of every other building in the game.

Upgrading the Furnace increases the amount of heat it produces, increases your building power score, and unlocks new buildings, troop tiers, and features.

Key Functions

City Headquarters

The Furnace determines the maximum upgrade level for all other buildings. No other building can surpass the current Furnace level.

Heat Production

The Furnace generates heat that keeps your Survivors warm:

  • During normal weather, the Furnace must produce enough heat for your population
  • During snowstorms (which occur periodically), heat demand spikes dramatically
  • If heat production falls short, Survivors become sick and cannot work
  • Sick Survivors reduce your city's productivity until they recover
  • Upgrading the Furnace increases heat output to match growing population demands

Building Power

Each Furnace upgrade adds to your total Building Power score, which contributes to your overall City Power.

Unlock Gating

Specific Furnace levels unlock key features:

  • New building types
  • Higher troop tiers at military camps
  • Advanced research trees
  • Fire Crystal buildings (at very high levels)
  • New hero slots and game features

Upgrade Information

Furnace upgrades require all four Resources: Meat, Wood, Coal, and Iron. At higher levels, resource costs are enormous and upgrade times stretch to days or weeks.

Note: The construction times shown in databases are base times. Actual times are reduced by:

  • State Buff reductions
  • Growth Research upgrades (construction speed technologies)
  • Hero skills (Eugene's construction speed bonus)
  • Alliance Aid from alliance members

Using all available speed reductions is critical for keeping Furnace upgrades moving efficiently.

Progression Milestones

Furnace Level Range Game Phase Key Unlocks
1–10 Early Game Basic buildings, T1–T4 troops, first hero slots
11–15 Mid-Early Game All core buildings, T5–T7 troops, hero gear system
16–20 Mid Game T8–T10 troops, advanced research options
21–25 Late Game T11 troops, Fire Crystal buildings start unlocking
26–30 End Game T12 troops, FC troops, maximum building levels

Tips

  • Always upgrade the Furnace first — it is the single highest priority upgrade in the game.
  • Use Alliance Aid on Furnace upgrades — other members can shave off significant time.
  • Save Speed-Up items primarily for Furnace (and secondarily for Research Center) upgrades.
  • Invest in Eugene (construction development hero) early — his skill permanently reduces construction time.
  • Complete Growth Research construction speed technologies as soon as possible.
  • Make sure your Coal production keeps up with Furnace demands — Coal is needed both for upgrades and as Furnace fuel.
