Food (also called Meat in Whiteout Survival) is the primary organic resource used to feed and sustain troops, train soldiers, and heal wounded units. It is one of the four core resources alongside Wood, Coal, and Iron.

Overview

Food/Meat is consumed constantly by your stationed troops and is required in large quantities for training new soldiers and healing injured ones. Unlike Wood or Coal, Meat is consumed passively just by having troops, making it one of the most depleted resources in active players' cities.

Production Sources

Hunting Grounds / Farm

The primary production building generates Meat passively over time. Upgrading this building increases the hourly production rate. Multiple production buildings can be constructed to stack output.

Gathering

Players can send gathering marches to Meat resource tiles on the world map. Gathering is one of the fastest ways to accumulate large amounts of Meat, especially from high-level tiles.

Events and Rewards

Meat is frequently awarded through:

  • Daily missions and quests
  • Alliance events
  • Bear Hunt participation
  • State vs State rewards
  • Alliance Help (speed assistance generates resources in some events)

Consumption

Meat is consumed by:

  • **Troop upkeep** — Troops stationed in your city consume Meat passively every hour
  • **Training** — Training new troops costs significant amounts of Meat
  • **Healing** — Recovering wounded soldiers from the Hospital requires Meat
  • **Research** — Some Economy tree technologies require Meat

Storage

Meat is stored in your warehouse. The Storehouse determines how much Meat is protected from enemy plundering — any Meat above the protection limit can be stolen in raids.

Production buildings also have a storage cap — Meat will stop generating once that building's capacity is full unless collected.

Meat Output Buildings

The Hunting Ground (or equivalent production building) generates Meat. Each level upgrade increases:

  • Base hourly production rate
  • Building storage capacity

Multiple buildings of the same type stack their production and storage.

Gathering Efficiency

To gather Meat more efficiently:

  • Assign heroes with Gathering bonuses to your gathering marches
  • Research Economy technologies that boost gathering speed and load capacity
  • Target higher-level resource tiles for more Meat per trip
  • Use Gathering gear sets on your chief for bonus gathering stats

Tips

  • Never let your storehouse run dry: Meat shortages cause issues with troop upkeep and can slow training dramatically.
  • Gather regularly: Send gathering marches whenever your troops are idle — consistent gathering is key to maintaining a surplus.
  • Upgrade production buildings: Even small increases in hourly rate compound significantly over days.
  • Watch your consumption: Training large batches of troops can rapidly deplete your Meat stockpile.
  • Use Gathering Gear: Equipping gathering-focused Chief Gear dramatically boosts march capacity and speed.
