Game Mechanics covers the core systems and rules that govern gameplay in Whiteout Survival. Understanding these mechanics is essential for effective city management, combat, and alliance cooperation.

Combat

The Counter Triangle

Combat in Whiteout Survival is governed by a rock-paper-scissors counter system among the three troop types:

  • Infantry beats Lancer
  • Lancer beats Marksman
  • Marksman beats Infantry

Sending the correct troop type gives a significant advantage in battle. Always scout enemy armies before attacking to determine the best troop composition.

Combat Stats

Each troop type has three core combat stats:

  • Attack (ATK) — Determines damage output
  • Defense (DEF) — Reduces incoming damage
  • HP — Total health points; troops die when HP reaches zero

These stats are improved through Research, hero skills, hero gear, and state buffs.

Battle Process

When armies meet in battle:

  1. The counter triangle modifier is applied based on troop type matchup
  2. ATK, DEF, and HP are calculated with all bonuses applied
  3. Rounds of combat occur until one army is eliminated or retreats
  4. Defeated troops become wounded (recoverable in Infirmary) or are permanently lost if Infirmary is full

Alliance

The Alliance system is one of the most important aspects of Whiteout Survival. Joining an active alliance provides major benefits:

  • Alliance Aid — Members can speed up each other's buildings and research
  • Resource Sharing — Members can donate resources to each other
  • Reinforcements — Alliance members can send troops to defend each other's cities
  • Alliance Technology — Alliance-wide research that benefits all members
  • Collective Events — Alliance-wide events like Alliance War and SvS

Alliance Ranks

Alliances have a hierarchy of ranks with different permissions:

  • Leader — Full control over alliance settings and management
  • R4 (Co-Leader) — Senior officers with broad management rights
  • R3 (Officers) — Can manage members and alliance activities
  • R2/R1 (Members) — Standard members with basic privileges

Alliance Territory

Alliances can claim territory on the world map, providing resource bonuses and strategic advantages. Territory is captured and defended through coordinated alliance combat.

Events

Events are time-limited activities that provide valuable rewards including resources, speed-ups, hero shards, and exclusive items.

Bear Hunt

Bear Hunt is a cooperative alliance event where members attack a powerful boss creature on the world map.

  • Requires coordinated troop deployment from multiple alliance members
  • Higher difficulty bears yield better rewards
  • Rewards include speed-ups, resources, and rare items

State vs. State (SvS)

State vs. State (SvS) is the most competitive large-scale event in Whiteout Survival:

  • Two states compete against each other for dominance
  • Points are earned through kills, building activity, and objectives
  • Requires heavy military preparation and alliance coordination
  • Rewards top players and winning states with exclusive prizes

Seasonal Events

Regular seasonal events tied to real-world holidays and game seasons:

  • Limited-time hero shard events
  • Resource collection challenges
  • Alliance competition events
  • Special story events

Other Events

  • Construction Events — Earn points by upgrading buildings
  • Research Events — Earn points by completing research
  • Training Events — Earn points by training troops
  • Gathering Events — Earn points by gathering resources

Progression

City Power

City Power is the primary measure of your overall strength. It increases when you:

  • Upgrade buildings
  • Train troops
  • Complete research
  • Level up heroes

Higher city power unlocks certain features and is used to rank players and alliances.

Furnace Level Gates

The Furnace is the primary progression gate:

  • Each Furnace level unlocks the ability to upgrade other buildings to that level
  • New features, troop tiers, and research options unlock at specific Furnace levels
  • Furnace upgrades require progressively more resources and time

Troop Tier Progression

Troops progress through tiers from T1 to FC10:

  • T1–T10: Standard tiers, unlocked by military camp upgrades
  • T11: Requires specialized research completion
  • T12: Requires additional advanced research
  • FC1–FC10: Fire Crystal troops requiring Fire Crystals and advanced Furnace levels

Hero Progression

Heroes advance through:

  • Level: Increased with hero EXP items
  • Star Level (1★–5★): Increased with hero shards, unlocks new skills
  • Gear Level: Improved with crafted Hero Gear

Snowstorms

Snowstorms are a core survival mechanic in Whiteout Survival:

  • Periodic snowstorms sweep across the world map
  • The Furnace must produce enough heat to protect your Survivors
  • Insufficient heat causes Survivors to get sick and become unable to work
  • Upgrading the Furnace and managing fuel (Coal) is critical to surviving storms
