Steel is a refined, late-game resource in Whiteout Survival, distinct from the four basic resources. It is used mainly for end-game War Academy research and for producing Fire Crystal Shards.
Acquisition
- Mercenary activities and event chests
- Alliance events and high-tier competitive rewards
- State vs State battle and participation rewards
- Exploration — the Explorers Cabin pays Steel alongside Hero EXP and gear, and keeps producing while you are away
Uses
- War Academy T12 research
- Exchange for Fire Crystal Shards at the War Academy (5,000 Steel = 1 Shard, up to 20 per day)
- Some late-game building upgrades
- Research — the Battle, Growth and Economy trees all bill Steel at their higher levels
- Helios and Exalted troop research, alongside Fire Crystals and Refined Fire Crystals
Steel is therefore claimed from four directions at once -- research, troop tiers, building upgrades and the Shard exchange -- and none of them produces it. It only comes in from outside.
