FunctionProduces Wood

The Sawmill produces Wood in your city. Upgrading it increases Wood output. It is the first production building a player opens, and the Furnace cannot reach Level 2 until the Sawmill has reached Level 1.

Production

The Sawmill produces nothing until Survivors are assigned to its workstations. Up to six Survivors can work in each production building.

Six pieces of furniture can be built inside: a Workbench, a Design Bench, a Steam Engine, a Changing Room and two Bellows. Furniture raises output, shortens production time and adds building power; some pieces must be fully upgraded before the building itself can be raised further.

Wood output is also raised from outside the building. The Wood Output line of Economy Research runs through six tiers of three levels, from Wood Output I at Research Center Level 3 to Wood Output VI at Research Center Level 30. The hero Eugene adds up to 25% city Sawmill output through his Woodland Inheritor skill, and up to 25% wood gathering speed on the map through Master Woodcutter — the same scale Charlie applies to the Coal Mine, Cloris to the Hunter's Hut and Smith to the Iron Mine. Three Edicts from the Chief's House — Productivity Day, Rush Job and Urgent Mobilization — act on every worksite at once.

The Wood produced here is spent on almost every construction, and the Furnace itself burns Wood at its early levels before switching to Coal.

Progression

The Sawmill has thirty levels, and each one requires the Furnace to be at that same level: Sawmill Level 12 needs Furnace Level 12.

The first three levels cost Wood alone. Coal joins the cost at Level 4, Iron at Level 6, and Meat at Level 11. From Level 11 onward Meat and Wood are required in equal amounts, with Coal and Iron in smaller quantities.

The Sawmill stops at Level 30 and has no Fire Crystal levels. Only the Furnace, the three troop camps, the Infirmary, the Embassy and the Command Center continue into the Fire Crystal tiers; the four resource buildings — Sawmill, Hunter's Hut, Coal Mine and Iron Mine — end at Level 30.
